Notwane faces inglorious sunset

Around 2010, Notwane was a key factor in the then beMOBILE Premier League, but now ‘Sechaba’ is almost unrecognisable, pitifully wallowing in the lower rungs of the First Division.
Out of the 12-team Debswana First Division South assembly, Notwane are found in position 11, a spot that guarantees automatic exit to the unfashionable Division One leagues. This, unfathomable a decade ago, is now inching closer to reality. Notwane has slid from its highs of the 1990s when it became one of Gaborone’s glamour clubs.
The constant swing between the Premier League and First Division could soon be a thing of the past as the ailing club heads for an inglorious sunset. Club spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng concurs the situation is dire and the river could soon run dry. “Yeah, it doesn't look good for a brand like Notwane to find ourselves in a relegation position in the lower division. We are very unfortunate for not collecting points. We need to start winning before it is too late,” he said. But in the face of adversity, Orapeleng waves a defiant fist.
“Don’t rule us out; we remain optimistic that we will start collecting points to be in a reputable position. I urge supporters to come close to the club and keep on believing,” Orapeleng said. The magic wand is needed sooner rather than later as ‘Sechaba’ is running out of games to salvage its season.
“We will convene a team elders and supporters meeting to update them on the team's performance and challenges. Former players should also come closer,” he said. Orapeleng's rallying call, as Notwane gasped for breath in the belly of an unforgiving First Division League, has consumed other former Premier League sides.
On Sunday, Notwane jump straight into the fire as they travelled to Jwaneng for an unpalatable date with log leaders, Young Stars. Notwane with just three wins in 15 games, only have seven games to swim to safety.
