Thamaga Police Station commander, Superintendent Moses Kwarare, said the suspect's sister reported the incident at around 3pm after he revealed to them that he had killed his girlfriend and locked her inside the house. The couple resided in a rented house in the same ward. Kwarare explained that upon receiving the news, the suspect's family members went to their rented house, finding it locked.

With the assistance of the suspect's neighbour, they broke down the door and discovered the deceased on the bed with multiple stab wounds. "Police rushed to the crime scene and found a knife beside the deceased. She was taken to Thamaga Primary Hospital, but was certified dead on arrival by the doctors," said Kwarare.

The police, Kwarare said, initiated a search for the suspect who had fled the scene but they managed to arrest him at around 11pm on the same day, thanks to community members who provided information about his whereabouts. "Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is in police custody. He is likely to be charged with murder before Molepolole Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, while the deceased's body awaits a post-mortem examination," he added.
