Boko was one of the youngest MPs in Parliament who won in the 2019 General Election through the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) ticket.

The opposition won two Mahalapye constituencies for the first time in 2019 due to former president Ian Khama’s fights with President Mokgweetsi Masisi. Boko told Mmegi that for the past two years, he has been unhappy with the on-goings in the constituency even affecting his emotional health. “I will remain an ordinary Motswana.

Currently, I am no longer an MP for Mahalapye East and would not be active in politics. This is because I want to take care of my emotional health. I am a family man, which needs me and young also. I gave all to the party and my constituency. Therefore, I do this for my happiness,” Boko said in an interview on yesterday.

He said through his political life, he went through betrayals, back stabbing and a lot of things by people whom he was close to in the constituency and party. The former MP said it is better for one to go to a place where he cannot be wounded unlike being unhappy. “Setlhako se babalela morwadi wa sone eseng ope gape,” he said.

Furthermore, the former MP said his wife was the one who was forced to nurse his wounds all the time and he could realise that it is affecting her as well. Moreover, Boko pointed out that what hurts him more is that he got betrayed by people he defended in the area, some he paid debts for and the ones he protected when they were under attack. However, he said the worst scenario is when some planned to frame or accuse him of rape, while others wished him dead. He said he was very fortunate because he is someone who prays that he picked all the evil plans they wanted to do. Boko said he does not think he could go back to politics rather he could go back to practice as an attorney if the need arises. He said if it was possible, he could be resting for the whole year without working but he couldn’t do that because he has a family to feed. Former MP said he is happy that finally, he would be a free man and away from the media. He continued: “I missed being myself. If one had been following my debates in Parliament, you could tell that I had changed a lot. I was not a happy person at all and at times I did not like how I was responding to elderly people.

There is a way in which I was brought up.” On the issue that he has debts, Boko said there is no one who does not owe anyone or something. He said he had accrued some debts after neglecting his law firm while concentrating on Parliament issues. In addition, he said the law firm debt is not bad that could make him resign and he is about to clear it.

On whether he did consult his constituents about the matter or not, he confirmed that he informed only elders of his constituency and her mother. Meanwhile, the Botswana National Front (BNF) secretary-general, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa said: “We heard that he has resigned, citing personal reasons. We have nothing more to say except to acknowledge his resignation, thank him for having served as MP under the BNF of the UDC.” BNF is an affiliate of UDC. When asked if he could become a civil servant, Boko said if there is a vacancy within the government that he needs, he would apply like every Motswana. He said he would not shy away from becoming a government employee.
