The victim had finished her work in Block 8, Gaborone, and was walking alone to Ledumang when she encountered the culprit. Broadhurst Police station commander, Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae stated that they received the report of the incident at around 11:30pm.

Describing the incident, he said that the victim reported encountering a young man on the road while walking home alone at night. The man warned her about walking alone and offered to accompany her. Subsequently, the unknown suspect advised her to take another route, claiming to have seen a group of thieves on the road. While on the alternative route, he allegedly pulled out a knife, threatened her and demanded sex, ultimately raping her. Lokae acknowledged that it was dark, making it challenging for the victim to identify the suspect. Nevertheless, investigations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the unknown suspect, who is still at large.

"I am urging vulnerable women, compared to their male counterparts, to avoid walking alone at night. I am appealing to men, who are often perpetrators of rape, to respect women and recognise that, like them, women also have the right to walk freely whenever they want," he emphasised.
