Morake has been without a team since parting ways with Ethiopian Coffee in July 2023, with just a year remaining on his contract.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper joined the Addis Ababa-based side in September 2022 on a two-year deal but struggled to command a starting place in the team. Morake now returns to the South African second tier, the Motsepe Championship, with Pretoria Callies. He has previously played for TS Galaxy in the league.

The player's representative, Bakang Moipone of Extreme Sports, confirmed to MmegiSport that Morake has signed a six-month contract with Callies, rejecting offers from Gaborone United and TAFIC in the just-ended transfer window period. "As you know, Ezekiel is a top-class goalkeeper, one of the best in the country. As his management, we then had to look for something outside.

The ambition is clear; to play outside. However, we had offers locally; GU and TAFIC, and we opted to pursue clubs outside the country. "You must remember the league there is extremely competitive more than our Premier League this side and the exposure as well is too much. I can tell you it is just a matter of time and we will see Ezekiel in the PSL," said Moipone.

The agent further revealed that the player is miles behind in terms of fitness levels, but his first weeks at the club have been promising. Morake will face stiff competition from former Black Leopards and Marumo Gallants' King Ndlovu, who joined the team last month. Callies sit 13th in the 16-team league, just four points above the bottom-placed team.

Morake will, however, wait a while longer to make his debut as he awaits his work permit. He becomes the third export in the just-ended transfer window after Benson Mangolo's move to Tanzania and Moshe Ndlovu's transfer to Bantu FC in Lesotho. Moshe is a former Callies player as Morake becomes the second Motswana to sign with 'MaRoma'.
