The university hosted the NYD members during their ongoing 15th meeting to showcase the broader societal impact of the research conducted by the institution.

While Dikgosi were impressed with what the university has to offer for them and their communities, they suggested that the institution could still do more by offering them education, which could mould them to be better leaders. Kgosi Mosojane of North East who spearheaded the issue, wondered what the university was doing to nurture the institution of Bogosi, which plays a significant role in the governance of the country. “For quite some time now since the establishment of the university, there has not been any module at the university that speaks to Bogosi.

This is something that we would really like to see change as we lead our communities,” pleaded Kgosi Mosojane. Furthermore, Kgosi Mosojane highlighted that not only will this move be beneficial to members of the NYD and help them be better leaders but will benefit Batswana as a whole.

“We wish to see that there comes a time where Bogosi people are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for them to be able to thrive as learned leaders who can be hands on with issues that continue to trouble people here in Botswana and assist them accordingly,” he said. In addition, Kgosi Mosojane added that this will be a great move by the UB as it will aid in fostering, and preserving culture that seems to be going extinct and groom the next chiefs. “Include the modules of Bogosi at the university so that we can have the next leaders after us that will be learned leaders and will be able to lead diligently better than us.

This will also help our culture that seems to be under threat because of the rural-urban migration by our people,” Kgosi Mosojane said. Responding to the plea by Kgosi Mosojane on behalf of the university, UB Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor David Norris acknowledged that it would be gratifying to see members of NYD acquire education. He, however, stated that dikgosi possess enormous knowledge and should not doubt themselves to get the job done.

“We really learn a lot from you because you are the one that have great knowledge. When we were going around the country, we learned a lot from you, the knowledge you posses is the knowledge that we want,” Norris said. He further added that as the university, they have the faculty of Humanities, which they believe the chiefs could go to and assist them in their plea to get modules and learn. The VC explained that the UB will continue going around the country and ascertain problems that trouble Batswana and make them the institution's research areas so that they come up with solutions for those challenges.
