Millennium Campus Network (MCN), Inc., is a global student network advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. MCN programmes convene, challenge, and celebrate student leadership for social impact. Its network has worked directly with over 9,000 young leaders from 300 universities and supports hundreds of projects every year.

Young leaders lead these projects through the Millennium Fellowship programme delivered in partnership with the United Nations Academic Impact. This year the programme is supporting 4,000+ Millennium Fellows across 260+ campuses in 38 countries with Botswana included on the list for the first time represented by 10 UB students whom are working on different Sustainable projects that focus on SDG goals.

One of the amicable project by UB students is the 3R-Creative Hub, which is a social impact project by one of the fellows, Takudzwa Mathabire, in support of SDG goal 11 on sustainable communities and cities. ‘Since it is the first time to have MCN in Botswana this Hub is strategically built to breed more creative and Sustainable projects at University of Botswana and country-wide.’

On the programme’s launch day Millennium Fellows,a group of Student Creatives who have joined the hub together with University officials gathered to see the amazing products which included tie and dye T-shirts and pencil cases all made from recycled materials. The pencil cases were made from recycled plastic bottles decorated by recycled off-cut fabric from tailors using simple fabric and glue as an adhesive.
