The two teams played to a 1-all draw in a match played at the Laurent Pokou Stadium.

Trouble started when Morocco head coach Walid Regragui and DRC captain Chancel Mbemba were seen roughing up each other, as players from both sides tried to intervene. The incident has since prompted CAF to launch an investigation.

“The CAF has launched an investigation against Royal Moroccan Football Federation and Congolese Association Football Federation following a post-match incident during the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 fixture between Morocco and Democratic Republic of Congo,” a statement from CAF read. Meanwhile, the Atlas Lions (Morocco) and DRC's Leopards are preparing for their last fixtures of the group stages, with Regagrui’s troops taking on Zambia, while DRC will face Tanzania.
