Khama's land application case postponed

The case was originally scheduled to be heard yesterday (Monday).
According to the chairperson of the Serowe Land Board, Sefane Phuthego, there was a delay in the process necessitating the rescheduling of the hearing.
“It’s not just Khama’s case that will be heard by Serowe Land Board on the 29th, but also other matters. The postponement is not specific to any one particular case, but is due to the transfer of the board’s secretary,” Phuthego said in an interview today.
The piece of land that the former president is interested in is a traditional burial site for some of the Bangwato royal family members.
Khama wants properties surrounding the Kgotla which include two bedroom houses, a bachelor pad formerly called Mophato wa Mahetsakgang, a four bedroom house at the kgotla, another two roomed house and an outdoor toilet.
Overall, Khama wants all the land and properties around the place which he claims form part of his inheritance. However, some in Serowe are opposed to Khama’s request for the land and properties, arguing that it is a sacred site. They are of the view that Khama or any other person should not be given ownership of the land.
