The young medical practitioner, Dr Betty Mosenye, broke the norm and decided to use her spare time to unearth her entrepreneurial side.

According to Mosenye, who is a medical doctor at Princess Marina Hospital, it all started in February 2022 while attending a workshop that had gathered representatives of businesses that manufacture body products. It was at the gathering that she was inspired to utilise her spare time to create money.

Mosenye was so inspired that after the event she took all her savings and utilised all the knowledge she learnt to start a business. She tells BusinessMonitor, that it was during May 2022 when she produced her own range of body products under the brand Sanity Essentials.

As they say the rest is history. Her side hustle specialises in producing a wide range of bath, body and face products, including bath scrubs, shower gel, scrubs, body butter, body oil, face wash, toner (available in three different types), and two types of face cream. Mosenye explains that Sanity Essentials targets consumers between the ages of 15 to 55 years, who are mostly females because she produces feminine scents.

“The support I have received has been satisfactory and assures that I am definitely on the right track,” she says in an interview. “Most of my clientele are my colleagues, teachers and some individuals who are usually referrals from my customers who are happy with the products. We have had an interesting trend of late, when males buy these products for their women.

” In order to maintain the highest quality standards, Sanity Essentials sources its raw materials from three different companies in South Africa. Mosenye, however, highlights that there is a local company that supplies these materials but at a higher price. "I carefully source cosmetic grade micas and ethically produced fragrance oils which my clients love.

Despite the sweat, passion and love I place on making the products, and how good they work, our prices are unbeatable. “Sanity Essentials products are quite affordable,” she says. Sanity Essentials goes above and beyond to provide exceptional customer care. Mosenye understands the importance of building lasting relationships with her clients.

To beat her competitors, she says she offers post-purchase services and follow-ups with customers to ensure their satisfaction and address any concerns that they may have. She notes that this personalised approach, coupled with the inclusion of love letters in the packaging, creates a unique and memorable experience for customers, which in the process fosters loyalty and repeat business. Although Sanity Essentials has local competitors, who make products similar to theirs, the business owner believes she has a competitive edge.

Her boldness to assert superiority is due to her product’s presentation, desert themed and her perfumery scents especially on the bath, body and face products which are unparalleled. “Despite my demanding profession, I pour my sweat, passion, and love into crafting these products, ensuring their efficacy and customer satisfaction,” she says. Looking into the future, Mosenye plans to own a body shop in one of Gaborone’s shopping centres.
