'Lekidi-gate' overshadows start of women's league

Gaborone United and Security Systems headline the weekend fixtures of the women's league when the two sides meet at Lekidi West.
The match between the two promises fireworks as local football yearns elite action in the absence of the men's league. The Alarm Girls are an emerging force in women's football circles and it promises to be a huge campaign for the Tlokweng-based side. Last season, Systems showed its ambition when it claimed its maiden official title after winning the Positive Changes GCRFA Cup in December.
The Alarm Girls beat The Reds 2-1 in an electrifying final match played in Gaborone. The Systems team boasts of talented players like Mares' defender, Masego Montsho, Laone Moloi and Pearl Sikwane and is reportedly close to securing the signature of Double Action playmaker, Segakolodi 'Nunuberry' Didukunyane.

Defending champions, Double Action will be in action at 9am when they take on Prisons XI in another exciting tie on the day.
On Saturday morning, Big Sisters take on UB Kicks at the Lekidi West grounds before FC Ambassadors lock horns with newly promoted Mazottie FC at 4pm. The match tickets per match day sell at P10. In the north, Francistown Region Women's league will continue with rescheduled fixtures. The league games resumed last weekend with round seven matches. Tonota Diamond Girls welcome Mandunyane Ladies FC at the Tonota Primary School grounds on Saturday at 10am. On Sunday afternoon, Heritage Academy and BUB Shooting Stars face off at the Area H grounds at 3.30pm. The rest of the regions are set to kick off their respective league competitions at a date to be announced by the Botswana Football Association. The men's regional leagues are in full swing.
