The UB don is linked to an incident in which an 18-year-old female student from the institution of highest learning was reportedly raped on the university premises. On Wednesday, the university released a statement confirming the incident but did not disclose the name of the lecturer and whether he will be suspended or not. However, the BCP today released a statement revealing that Prof Malema has suspended his membership from the party. “The party accepts his decision and informs the public that there will be no further action, pending the final outcome on the matter,' reads a statement from BCP spokesperson, Dr Mpho Pheko.
The BCP has acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and has emphasized the need for a thorough and fair investigation into the matter. “The party wishes to assure the public that the matter is being given paramount attention and a decision will be announced in due course,” added the statement. In the statement, the BCP emphasized its dedication to upholding a value system that demands unwavering ethical behaviour from its members. 'BCP holds highly a value system that expects unshaken ethical conduct by its members, notably those who have shown interest in holding leadership positions.'
BCP president, Dumelang Saleshando on Wednesday made it clear during a press conference that the party will stand with the alleged victim until proven otherwise in cases of sexual assault allegations. 'Whenever there are allegations of sexual assault nature, the default position of the party is to be on the side of the alleged victim, until proven otherwise,' he said.
