The BPL was set to resume this weekend after the festive break but due to a tussle for the Botswana Football League (BFL) leadership, the games have been cancelled. The fight involves the 13 BFL members led by Masitaoka FC's Godfrey Ratlhaga and GU president, Nicholas Zackem with the latter being pushed out of the BFL chairmanship.

The brawl has seen a series of meetings between the involved parties since mid-December and the latest was on Wednesday but did not bear fruit. The 14-member cohort has since said the league would not resume and they will not honour league games until the matter is resolved.

The league fixtures of match day 13 were made public through the BPL Facebook page on Tuesday. The Reds are scheduled to play Holy Ghost this evening at the National Stadium at 7pm. Speaking to MmegiSport on Thursday, GU's marketing and communications manager, Herbert Letsebe said until and when the club receives an official communication from the BFL, the team will show up for their scheduled tie against Holy Ghost this evening. "As far as we are concerned the fixtures are out from the BFL showing that we are playing tomorrow (Friday) and we will be at the field unless we receive an official communication that the games are cancelled.

That is when we will also inform our players that the game has been cancelled but up to now we have not received anything official from the BFL that says there are no games tomorrow," said Letsebe. Moyagoleele, alongside VTM, are the only BPL league clubs not to pen the agreement to remove Zakhem as BFL chairperson.

MmegiSport is informed that teams that do not honour the fixtures this weekend could face the wrath of the law. The tussle began on December 16 when the disgruntled BFL met in Palapye to among others, remove Zakhem and former Township Rollers' president, Jagdish Shah from the board. In addition, the members sought to rescind a resolution to reduce the BPL teams from 16 to 12. Shah has since resigned from the board and leaves Zakhem as the sole combatant in the battle for the control of the BFL.
