The Botswana Prison Service (BPS) released a statement this morning to confirm that the two escaped prisones had been recaptured at Polokwe Hills between Moshupa and Kanye.
Speaking to MmegiOnline, Oagile Kojane, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for BPS revealed that the two escapees would face the wrath of the law for their actions. The PRO further indicated that the public should be at rest and be guaranteed that they will deal with the matter as required and that the escapees will be duly punished.
“By escaping from lawful custody the pair defied the Botswana Prison Act and we will now have to report the matter to the Botswana Police Service for criminal prosecution and a new case against them will be opened. So it will be a new case not attached to the initial murder charge they are in custody for,” he said.
Despite the triumph of recapturing the two prisoners, Kojane stated that they have not yet ascertained how the two escaped from the walls of the State prison. He emphasised that they will however, carry on investigations to find out how they escaped and the pair will now be closely monitored.
Meanwhile, Botswana Prison Service has heartily thanked the community for helping them put back Banga and Mathe in prison.
“We would like to thank members of the public and all stakeholders who assisted in the swift recapture,” reads the statement from the Prisons authority.
The two are both facing murder charges, which they are yet to be sentenced for
