Peace and quiet: Police say New Year's Eve revellers were well-behaved

Contrary to what they had expected, police say the festivities went along peacefully without serious crimes such as murder, rape and others. Mahalapye Central police station commander, Superintendent Boitshepo Modongo, said the single incident recorded involved a fight in which the victim was stabbed in the leg. "Bars closed early around 10pm and we managed to control the crowds whose behaviour was excellent. “We only recorded one case of grievous bodily harm where a 32-year-old man was stabbed with a sharp object at a local bar when bars were about to close.

“He was stabbed in his leg and investigations are ongoing to establish what the fight was really about. “We have since launched investigations to locate and arrest the known suspect who escaped the scene following the incident," she said. Modongo said the victim is currently getting assistance and is in a stable condition at Mahalapye Hospital.

"Unlike the previous years, we did not record serious crimes like murder, rape and robbery and we would like to thank Mahalapye revellers for their excellent behaviour," Modongo said.
