The incident, which occurred at Tobela village, took place after police who were conducting patrols after midnight, found a group of people entertaining themselves at a local shebeen. When officers attempted to disperse the crowd, angry youths pelted the police vehicle with stones.

Seven men and four females were arrested and are currently in custody for investigations.

Shoshong acting police station commander, Assistant Superintendent George Mabuta, said the police vehicle was damaged in the process and has a few dents.

Mabuta said the shebeen queen's son, a 20-year-old man, was injured during the mayhem after he was hit with a stone thrown by the angry mob.

"The suspects have been charged and remanded in custody for obstructing the police while on duty. “The shebeen owner, a 45-year-old woman, has been charged with operating a shebeen beyond stipulated hours," he said.

Mabuta further stated that despite the incident, New Year celebrations went well in his policing area as they did not record violent crimes like murder, rape, robbery and others.
