The operation was held from December 14th to 16th by Maun Police in collaboration with the Department of Road Transport Safety as well as the Botswana Unified Revenue Service.

In an interview with MmegiOnline, Maun District officer commanding, Onious Madziba, cautioned against driving without a license noting that it is an offence punishable by law.

'It is a concern that we were able to register such a number of unlicensed drivers in one area and within those days. “We have realised that people are comfortable with driving without licenses which can be dangerous to other road users,' he said.

Madziba also noted that they recorded an alarming number of 400 drivers who intentionally disobeyed road signs, within a few days in his policing area.

'This is also concerning because by doing so, they are putting other people in danger. “We have even joined forces with churches to pray against these road accidents,' he said.
