It will take place on December 31, 2023 at the Molepolole Sports Complex.

Organisers aim to make it a yearly event. Following recent unrest in the village, the organisers of the event say that the occasion might be the solution to the issues that have engulfed the village lately.

There has been turmoil in the village recently as residents set ablaze some properties following the alleged murder of taxi driver, Phenyo Jakoba, whose body was found with some parts of his body missing.

In an interview with Arts&Culture, the event spokesperson Atema Letlole revealed that the Bakwena Music Festival would achieve its targets by relaying messages of hope to the patrons at the festival. “This event’s target is to bring people closer and restore the family vibes, which we were used to.

We will do this by engaging relevant stakeholders who will also be at the event to help sensitise the patrons,” he said. He stated that they have engaged stakeholders like the Botswana Police Service, the District Health Management Team (DHMT) and the local leaders of the village, including Member of Parliament and Minister for State President, Kabo Morwaeng. With many people expressing fear about visiting Molepolole nor attending an event there, Letlole has assured that their lives will not be in jeopardy. “We accept anyone in Molepolole; so don’t be afraid to attend the event. All security measures have been put in place and we have hired a security company as well as engaging the police service,” he boldly said.

Regarding the preparations of the event and the ticket sales, Letlole stated that they have not experienced any challenges thus far. He also commended Batswana for buying tickets so early. The event will be headlined by South African songstress Paige who has enjoyed many bookings in Botswana this year.

The artist has over the year identified Botswana as her second home after her native country. Another international artist to look out for is Ntate Stunna. The SA-based Lesotho artist has also been one of the most international booked artists after his debut performance this year. Other artists in the line-up are Jub Jub, Vee Mampeezy, Charma Gal, Franco, Dr Vom, Rockzie, Kharisma, Vukani, Dalom Kids, Figos, Sphalaphala Sa Ga Marothi, Chef Gustos, DJ Ngwazi and many more.
