During the upcoming holidays, Maun will host the inaugural Local Ka Monate Music festival. The organiser of the event, Lesego ‘Spin’ Mabote said during the COVID-19 outbreak, local music artists were struggling financially hence the new idea. “The idea behind this event is to try and assist local artists. Our artists have the potential to be crowd pullers and all we want to see is for Maun residents to fill up the Sports Complex. It is a good thing to see that are Batswana supporting local artists. Even on social media, you can tell the positive reactions that they receive,” he said. Mabote said the Botswana music industry is growing at a rapid rate, so much that it is regarded by many as a possible generator of significant economic activity in many parts of the country and that Batswana are not likely to benefit from realisation of the potential unless they are directly or indirectly involved.

He said although it is a brilliant idea, it comes with costs and it has not been easy to work around it. “As organisers of the event, we have to cater for accommodation for the artists, feed them and pay them. As we speak, we have to pay 50% upfront before they can even travel to Maun,” he said. Local Ka Monate Music festival is set for Maun Stadium in December 29. Line-up: DJ Que, DJ Japs, Stika Sola, Nature BW, Franco and Afro Musica, Tumza and The Big Bullets, DJ Can, Shaboo, HT Tautona, DJ Maximum, DJ Gouvea, DJ Distilled, La Timmy, DJ Ms Luu, Manto 7, T.H.A.B.O, Dr Vom, Charma Gal and Han C.
