BNFWL pledges to raise funds for women candidates

The decision is in response to cries from women running for office that lack of funds was one factor that made them fail to win in previous elections. "The BNF has adopted a policy of ensuring that 30% of its candidates are women, and the Women's League hopes that the party leadership will support them in implementing this policy," BNFWL secretary-general, Kato Ditshotlo said during a press conference today at the BNF office. "They believe that it is important to increase the representation of women in politics," she added. The BNFWL also announced they will hold an event to commemorate the life of the late Member of Parliament for Tlokweng, Same Bathobakae, on November 18 at the University of Botswana Auditorium.
Ditshotlo said the event will focus on the challenges that Bathobakae faced as both a mother and a politician. Following the resignation of the previous BNFWL chairperson, Dr Bonang Nkoane, Katlego Morolong was announced as the new chairperson. In addition, five members who were previously suspended from the committee were replaced by newly co-opted members.
