The Botswana Police Service (BPS) confirmed in a statement that they received a tip off indicating that three people were planning a robbery. Acting on the tip off, the BPS stated that they acted briskly and followed up on tip off. “Upon arrival at the men's residence, a shootout ensued and in the process, a police officer sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment at the hospital,” the BPS stated.

The BPS hold firm belief that the trio were part of syndicate involved in a series of robberies and stock theft that have occurred in Mochudi and other near peripheral areas. BPS further stated they have since recovered some weapons at the crime scene and that their preliminary investigations show the weapons were stolen during a robbery in the neighbouring South Africa. “The police have since recovered three rifles, one shotgun, a pistol and a revolver together with an assortment of more than 100 live ammunition. The recovered items also consist of butchery equipment, knives and axes suspected to have been stolen following a case in which a butchery was broken into,” BPS said. Investigations on the matter continue.
