The numbers were revealed by Deputy Commissioner of police for operations, Solomon Mantswe when officiating at the launch of this year’s 60 days of action on crime and road safety campaign. The occasion was held at Kanye’s main Kgotla. He added that the car models that are mostly targeted are Honda Fit and Toyota RunX that are usually smuggled into neighbouring countries and at times sold or stripped for parts.

“We have since discovered that the targeted vehicles’ engines are used to operate boreholes in some neighbouring countries hence the rise in these motor vehicle in the country. “However, through Interpol we are currently working hard to curb this scourge and we are calling for members of the public’s alertness and to ensure that they install security devices on their vehicles,” Mantswe said.
