Samantha Mogwe leads BOMU nominations

The 12th edition of the BOMU awards was launched Tuesday evening at the Game City Mall Rooftop (Marquee) with Samantha Mogwe’s name called out several times under the nominees’ categories for the much-anticipated awards also announced.

Samantha Mogwe’s September 2022 masterpiece has seen her being nominated for the Song of the Year for her hit with Mpho Sebina titled, Marang. She also got nominated for Best Female, Best Collaboration (Marang ft. Mpho Sebina), Best Music Video for her song VII and Best RnB.

Samantha Mogwe has replaced DJ Ngwazi, who was the most nominated during the 11th edition last year with seven nominations following his breakthrough season. These two will slug it out for Song of the Year and Best Music Video awards. DJ Ngwazi will also battle for two more awards after being nominated for Best Single and Best Amapiano album categories.



DJ Ngwazi is tied on four nominations with DJ KSB, who has been nominated for Best Dance Album, Best Single, Best Producer and Song of the Year awards. Other notable nominees include Han C, who has been nominated for Best Afro Pop Album, Best Remix (Tears of Joy) and Best Male Artist, Team Distant for Best Remix, Most Played Song on Radio and Best Collaboration (Colder than Water). Rapper-cum-comedian, William Last KRM, has also been nominated for Best Dance Album while Lizibo, Motlha, Oscar Chakabuya, Tshepo Lesole, Khoza Mkhozeni and Lister Boleseng also make the list.

Samantha Mogwe told Arts&Culture that she is humbled to be recognised for her work adding that her team has worked hard and deserved the vote in confidence by BOMU.

“I am also nervous. I hope Batswana come out and vote for the music. I am praying that we bring them all home.

The competition is tough; there is some excellent music in the categories I am nominated for. Being nominated alone is such an amazing privilege. I hope my fans vote in high numbers,” she said. Furthermore, Samantha Mogwe, said she would continue to make music and produce shows.



“In case you missed it, Chef Gustos and I have a beautiful track on his new offering ‘Expensive Music’. The track’s name is Broken Heart. After the success of the Sister’s Medley, I’m also working with Mpho Sebina on an amazing project for next year. Watch this space,” she concluded. The BOMU awards will be held on December 9 at the Royal Aria Conference Centre in Tlokweng.
