Addressing the media at the Grand Palm Hotel on Tuesday, the event director, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang, said among other things, they had to improve the voting process which is key to the whole awards.

He said they have engaged Mobile Enterprise who will be monitoring the voting process. He explained that for people to call themselves celebrities, they should have made a statement in terms of visibility, good packaging, good fashion sense and acceptable characters. “You should be able to represent any company.

Our search for such icons is for them to be seen under one roof. We are not agents or don’t manage celebrities. The only direction that we give our celebrities is that we need to participate on the international platform. We also facilitate a platform, which can add value to their packaging. We want people who do not post or display a behaviour that is offensive to the public,” he said.

He added that this year, they encouraged community members to also take part in changing the lives of the next person with the little they could afford saying it is not only up to the corporate world to bring positive impact in the lives of the citizens. He said it was for that reason that they brought Sunday soccer social clubs as they contribute a lot in bringing positive impact to society.

He said that social clubs have turned into entities that play a big role in the development of their communities. Tlhomelang said they have widened their reach to places far from Gaborone such as Maun and Francistown. He added that the red carpet means a lot to them hence their decision to award the best-dressed person from the public.

“We have brought in international artists here so that they might collaborate with local artists. In the coming years, we want to go beyond African borders. We want to make these wards international. It is imperative for us to be competitive. We will also be bringing local stars who are making it big in the international arts industry. We will be having international guests in the coming years to promote local tourism,” he said.

For his part, Glitz marketing manager, Mosimanegape Phiri, said local artists include Han C, Fifi Africa, DJ Life, Kunkuru for traditional folklore, Mapetla and Skelem Key while international artists include Ntate Stunna, Rethabile Khumalo, Zama Radebe and DJ Rose all from South Africa. He added they have reduced ticket sales for VVIP from P1,500 to P1000, VIP ticket that was sold for P1,000 to P750 and standard ticket that was sold for P400 to P250 to allow everyone interested in the event to buy and partake. The event will be held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre on the evening of October 28, 2023.
