OLDM’s key partners who contributed towards the donation are Arotec Holdings, Collegium Educational Publishers, WEPEX, Cowburn Isherwood and Associates, CCIB, Mindea Exploration and Drilling Services (M.E.D), Franklin Electric, Aridus Hydro Geotechnik, NTR Technology Holdings, Ground Probe, Abmincon Botswana, and Debswana Diamond Company.

The initiative is driven by a shared vision amongst OLDM as well as its employees and its business partners to enhance the quality of education in the country.

From the money donated, P50,000 was devoted towards sponsoring the prize-giving ceremony.

The other money was used to purchase STEM books, a 3-in-1 printer, and provision of logistical support for the donation ceremony.

Guest speaker at the donation ceremony, Keitumetse Mmoloki who is OLDM’s technical lead for slope and mine design optimisation, urged the learners to take advantage of the support rendered to them by the mine as well as its business partners and strive for academic excellence.

He emphasised that academic excellence requires, developing the right mindset, setting goals, learning continuously, working diligently, embracing failure and maintaining discipline and mental resilience.

“By following this path to excellence, you will not only raise your own potential but also contribute to the betterment of society.

As you embark on your individual quests for excellence, let us also remember that it’s not about being better than others but about being the best version of ourselves,” Mmoloki said.

In her opening remarks, the principal of Mokubilo Primary School, Ikageng Segolodi thanked OLDM employees and the mine’s business partners for their gesture.

She noted that the items donated will inevitably help learners improve their performance.

According to her, the school has been underperforming in recent years, with an A, B, and C pass rate of 50% in 2018, 50% in 2019, 61.1% in 2020, 47.8% in 2021, and 43.3% in 2022.

“Though that may be the case, let me say that the teachers would have fought to get to the percentages stated, coming on weekends without overtime pay even during holidays such as Easter to teach students.

Let us keep them in mind as they are pushing for better results along with their HODs {heads of departments},” Segolodi said.
