The move underlines the institution’s steadfast commitment to the promotion of the Chinese language and culture. As Botswana continues to enjoy good relations with China, BIUST is also fast moving into the teaching of the Chinese language. The BIUST’s Confucius Institute is to be officially on October 31, 2023, at the institution campus in Palapye.

“The Confucius Institute plays a pivotal role as a cultural and educational bridge for the dissemination of the Chinese language and culture in countries that maintain bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China. As an institution dedicated to the teaching of the Chinese language, BIUST has strategically partnered with Yanshan University in China to establish the Confucius Institute,” a statement from BUIST reads.

“BUIST takes immense pride in spearheading the promotion of cross-cultural understanding and language education through the establishment of the Confucius Institute.

This partnership underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering cultural exchange and education, strengthening the bond between the two nations, and instilling a deeper appreciation of the Chinese language and culture.” The launch is to be attended by the officials of the two universities and senior government officials alongside the officials from the Embassy of China in Botswana.
