However, Bartender aim to change this narrative as they will be hosting the Gin & Cheese event on October 21, 2023 at Wagga Gardens in Gaborone. The event will start at 2pm. When addressing the media recently, Bartender director, Kabo Moitoi said the aim of the event is to move away from the norm that only wines are paired with cheese.

He added that gins were also like any other drinks and could be paired with cheese. Moitoi said the event was the first of its kind in Botswana. He added that they will be bringing a whole catalogue of gins, all batches, craft gins, quite tasty and different. He further explained that cheese by its nature is used to cleanse the palate while gins provide different flavours.

He said that was because gins were made of different herbs adding that they were healthy drinks for people to have. “We will be bringing different flavours of cheese as we cleanse the palate we will be tasting different cheeses. The whole idea behind the concept is let us appreciate offering of different products on the market. Some of them are not widely known. We have a number of local brewed gins and for a number of people they are not familiar with them. The cheeses we have Talis as our main sponsor for the event,” he said.

Moitoi also said the idea for to create an experience and therefore they are not driving a crowd but to have an experience. People who attend are guaranteed a lifetime experience. He added that their gins are made of real infused herbs. He said the essence was that when drinking the gin, people could be able to tell the difference between different gins.

For her part, Bartender sales and marketing executive Cathrine Tholwane said Gin & Cheese is Bartender’s first social event. She added that they were trying the market saying that it was a risk they decided to take. She also said through the event, they wanted to bring locally made gins to Batswana. She explained that they will be serving and selling strictly locally made gins at the event so that the public appreciates some of the best tasting gins made in the country. She said the event would only accommodate 500 people inside the venue.

The event is said to be targeting the mature and classy crowd. Lined up artists who will be performing at the event include DJ Fresh, O’Neal Africa, Dolphus, Shimrock, Bo Kettle, Shaft People and Sebaga while Dollar Mac will be Emceeing.
