The accident occurred early morning during rush hour near First National Bank (FNB). Mogoditshane acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi said following the accident, the victim was rushed to Sidilega Private Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

“The traffic lights were open when the deceased crossed the road and a speeding car hit her. She sustained serious head injuries. Later in the day, we received a report from the hospital that she succumbed to the injuries,” he said.

Ramaphoi pleaded with pedestrians to be cautious at all times and pay attention to traffic lights before crossing to avoid unnecessary accidents that can even claim lives. He said accidents that involve pedestrians in the area remain a concern as they continue to record pedestrian deaths despite their efforts to sensitise the public on road safety.

“I am pleading with members of the public to take responsibility on the road, cross the road at the zebra crossing and obey road signs at all times, especially at peak hours when the road is busy. These accidents are a concern, sometimes they occur in a space of weeks and at times in a space of hours hence the concern,” he said.
