Driver, passenger die in road mishap

Oketsang stated that following the collision, the GD6 caught fire along with the trailer it was pulling, which carried huge luggage that burnt to ashes. He said the Toyota GD6 bearing South African plate numbers was driven by a 23-year-old Zimbabwean man and it was heading to the north coming from the south.
“The Toyota Camry that was driven by a 60-year-old Motswana man was facing south from the northern part of the country when the vehicles collided. The GD6 had three people on board, the driver and two male passengers who are all currently fighting for their lives at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital {in Francistown} together with the sole survivor of the Toyota Camry,” he said.
Oketsang added that the Toyota Camry also had three people on board, the driver and two female passengers and he (the driver) died on the spot while one of his passengers, a 59-year-old woman later that day succumbed to her injuries while still hospitalised at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
Furthermore, the senior police officer pleaded with drivers to drive carefully on the A1 Highway to avoid accidents that continue to claim people’s lives. He revealed that most of the accidents occur as a result of overspeeding, drunken driving, and failure to observe the road signs by most drivers.
