Botswana was in the running to host the tournament but a joint bid comprising, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda emerged as the winner. There were complaints over how the process was handled by CAF, including concerns over lack of transparency.

This morning, speaking to Masunga residents during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Mokgweetsi Masisi, Rakgare said goalposts had been shifted. "We were hopeful but goalposts were moved during the process.

We will give full details in due course once I brief the President," Rakgare said. There are claims Botswana's bid had emerged second behind that of Algeria after assessors led by auditors from PriceWaterhouseCoopers submitted their reports to CAF. However, the final decision lay with the CAF executive committee which voted in favour of the East African bid last week Wednesday.
