The tragic incident happened in Selebi-Phikwe. Acting station commander in Selebi-Phikwe, Assistant Superintendent Bontle Morekisi confirmed the harrowing incident, stating that it occurred on a Wednesday afternoon at Orlando location.

She explained that they became aware of the situation when the 41-year-old man's family received a distressing call from him, revealing his disturbing intentions to harm his wife and take his own life.

Upon receiving the report, Morekisi detailed that responding officers promptly arrived at the scene. There, they discovered the lifeless body of the woman, presumed to be the man's wife, lying in a pool of blood on the floor.

Just a short distance away, her alleged husband was found hanging from the rafters, having taken his own life. Investigators suspect that the man, who was employed by the mine, used a sharp weapon, possibly an axe, to fatally attack his self-employed wife by hacking her in the neck before resorting to hanging himself with a rope.

The acting police chief categorically dismissed claims that the couple's children had witnessed their father committing the heinous act. She further clarified that the police, who were the first to respond to the distress call, discovered the deceased spouses with no children present at the scene.
