Boitekanelo College recently hosted a stakeholder engagement donation

The college's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme identifies areas of support for healthcare institutions around the country on a needs basis in order to improve patient care.

So far, the institution has successfully donated five wheelchairs and 10 drip stands to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital as part of its commitment to improve community well-being and recognise the need for resources to provide comprehensive healthcare services.

Tlamelo Oageng, digital marketing and public relations officer at Boitekanelo College, stated that the wheelchair and drip stand drive would continue, with eight hospitals on the list. She explained that through its notable collaborations with the Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital and the Riverside Hospital, the college, which offers unique and industry driven programmes, is able to send its students for industrial attachment so that they get hands on experience, which in turn not only allows for the two health institutions to grow, but has changed the lives of graduates.

“Our students need both theory and clinical attachment. The partnerships have ensured that we get clinical sites for our students as well as employment. Clinical attachment provides an opportunity for unprejudiced and objective monitoring, offering supportive and contained training because it is beyond purely clinical experience,” Oageng said.

During the stakeholder recognition, Dr Kgosidialwa Mompati, the managing director of Riverside Hospital said that they have been accepting students from Boitekanelo through their work integrated learning programme for over 15 years. “Initially, we received health care assistants and as the institution grew so did their offering of health care workers. Today, we employ 80 Boitekanelo graduates out of a staff complement of 272,” Mompati said. He expressed his gratitude to the Boitekanelo management as well as acknowledge the tripartite relationship with Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, which they have valued from recruiting and sharing Boitekanelo graduates in their endeavour to bring quality healthcare services to patients in Botswana's north.
