Police probe five women over a lifeless foetus

Kazungula Station Commander Superintendent Phetogo Phillemon said on Monday, they received a report from one of the landlords indicating that they discovered a lifeless foetus that was obstructing the toilet.
He said the same landlord had reported that tenants complained about sewerline blockage at his house. He further said the reporter then hired a plumber to look into the sewerline at that point.
Upon opening the drain, the plumber discovered a motionless foetus weighing 105 grammes, floating. Phillemon said that the landlord then reported the matter to them and when they arrived at the scene, they found the foetus badly decomposed. Although the mother of the foetus is yet unknown, he said that the same compound houses roughly five female tenants aged between 24 and 34 years.
Kazungula police chief ndicated that the foetus ,which was suspected to be around 16-18 weeks, was taken to the Kasane Primary Hospital where it was certified dead.
He further said the matter is still under investigation, and they are yet to establish whose pregnancy it could be. While the five female tenants at the same yard remain their prime suspects, they cannot rule out an outsider, he added. Phillemon said if the mother is caught, she will be charged with concealing childbirth.
