The accused, Ramokgosi Ramokgosi, made this plea during the mitigation phase of his trial for another rape offence committed in 2015 in Mabesekwa village. He is currently serving a prison sentence for the rape and murder of an elderly woman. "I am already serving a 25-year prison term for rape and murder," the accused stated while appealing to Magistrate Game Mooketsi for mercy.

"I request the court to order that the sentence for this rape charge be concurrent with my existing rape and murder sentences. I committed this offence in 2015 and I would have completed my term if I had been sentenced then. I am now 33-years-old and I am scheduled for release in 2036 regarding the rape and murder convictions. "By then, I will have spent a significant portion of my life behind bars and my ability to be productive in society will have been severely compromised. "Therefore, I earnestly request the court to order that the sentence for the current rape charge be served concurrently with my existing sentences," he expressed. Ramokgosi is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on September 19.
