Jacobs has reportedly agreed a one-year contract with ‘Kuka Ntsu’ with an option of renewal for a further year. He takes over from Zimbabwean tactician, Elias Chinyemba who guided the team to their maiden elite promotion and has since been deployed to development structures.

Jacobs is set to officially take the reins on September 1 as Namibian publication, New Era Newspaper reports in a historic move. Jacobs will become the first Namibian to coach in Botswana as Matebele FC make their BPL debut. “It will come with an option to extend for a further one-year. The immediate plan is to survive the first season. We will aim for a top eight finish.

They are an ambitious club,” Jacobs confirmed his appointment to New Era newspaper. He holds a CAF A coaching license and executive certificate in sports management. He has coached among others Tura Magic, Orlando Pirates and Black Africa in the Namibian football circles.

Jacobs is said to have been impressed by Matebele’s facilities upon his visit to the club’s base at Matebele just 20km outside Gaborone. At press time, Sport Monitor could not source a comment from the club as chairperson, Moreetsi Kediseng, did not respond to the questionnaire forwarded to him last week. Jacobs is said to be bringing some of Namibian top talents to The Nest.

Former Orlando Pirates and Blue Waters’ Addis Gomez Goagoseb, alongside Romeo Kasume and McCartney Naweseb who had a stint in Uzbekistan are said to be joining Matebele ahead of the new season.

The trio is reported to be in country and finalising talks with the club. Matebele will make their BPL debut against Security Systems on September 16 at the Lobatse Sports Complex. The team will meet champions, Jwaneng Galaxy on September 27 while they will take on Gaborone giants, Gaborone United and Township Rollers on October 29 and November 12 respectively. They will end their debut Premier League campaign away to BDF XI as per the BPL draft fixtures released on Thursday.
