The arrest transpired after the police received a tip regarding the suspect and her boyfriend engaging in the trade of illicit substances. Upon arriving at their residence on a Saturday afternoon to search for these alleged drugs, the police discovered a concealed 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of the items during police questioning.

Superintendent Nicholas Kadiatla, the Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, stated that the woman was found alone and efforts are underway to locate her partner for further questioning.

While the suspected drugs were not located during the search, investigations into the matter are ongoing. Both the pistol and the ammunition will undergo thorough testing to ascertain their nature and origin. "Pistols are not licenced in Botswana hence it is illegal to own them,” he said. Superintendent Kadiatla underscored the significance of community involvement in aiding the police’s efforts to combat crime.

He highlighted the fruitful outcomes resulting from their collaboration with the community through community cluster policing. Notably, he appreciated the continuous support of community members and emphasised that their contributions play a pivotal role in the fight against crime. The legal implications of this situation will be addressed as investigations progress.
