BFA snatches BFL’s preferred candidate

In April, Mbatha announced the selection of an executive manager by June, a successor anticipated to assume the role of BFL CEO upon Mbatha's 12-month contract expiry next year.

However, recent developments have shifted the scenario. Four candidates underwent May interviews, but Mbatha revealed that the favoured contender secured a position elsewhere.

"The candidate that we were hoping to rope in has decided to take up a role with the BFA and as such we will continue with another round of recruits to try and fill the post before the start of the season," Mbatha clarified. Subsequent inquiries revealed that the BFL plans to re-interview three candidates who were initially shortlisted but not selected.

The final chosen candidate will then be presented to the board for approval. "We are looking to have made the appointment in September," Mbatha confirmed, aligning with the league's scheduled commencement in the same month. Sources disclosed that the BFL had eyed Tshepo Sedimo as a potential understudy to Mbatha. Sedimo reportedly performed remarkably well during his BFL interview.

However, he was subsequently approached by senior officials at Lekidi due to his notable track record in marketing. Insiders hinted that many BFA executive members endorsed Sedimo's appointment. He recently joined the association and will focus on soliciting sponsorships for the BFA, as well as contributing to communication and branding efforts at Lekidi.

Despite insider information, the BFA has neither validated nor publicly acknowledged Sedimo's arrival. CEO Mfolo Mfolo refrained from addressing queries concerning Sedimo.

On the other hand, Sedimo himself verified his association with the BFA. "Yes, I am under the employ of the association. I joined in July," Sedimo confirmed. Regarding the executive manager position at BFL, Sedimo expressed a lack of awareness of being the favoured candidate. He formerly held prominent marketing roles at organisations such as Botash.
