The theme of this year’s event is ‘A little Xtra step is a change’. A Gala dinner and a Cool Down Festival will complement this year’s charity walk.

The charity walk includes a 10km and a 21km walk in which participants will take part, and it is projected to draw 3,000 participants and raise P3 million this year. Last year’s annual walk had over 1,500 participants as well as numerous sponsors.

This year’s walk sponsors include Barloworld Equipment, Kanu Equipment, Fluiconnecto Botswana T/A Fluid Systems, Sesiro Insurance Company, and others. Special guests and performances are yet to be revealed.

The annual GM’s walk is part of Debswana’s corporate social investment, and it aims to raise awareness of the Boteti Sub District’s socioeconomic needs, raise funds for deserving community-focused interventions, and improve employees’ wellness.

The charity walk has made a significant contribution to Boteti Sub District’s development story improving people’s lives in the Boteti region since its commencement. The GM’s charity walk is just one of the several activities that will help to empower the communities in OLDM’s area of influence.

Some of the important initiatives that have been successfully accomplished with revenue from the walk include the establishment of a maternity unit at Letlhakane Primary Hospital. The entire project cost P5 million, with the walk earning P1.5 million.

In 2018, the charity walk raised P1.2 million for the construction of a special education classroom block at Tsienyane Primary School in Rakops village. This project was completed at P4.75 million.

Other noteworthy projects funded through the walk include the construction of eight dwellings at a cost of P1.2 million.

The residences were created for less privileged households living within the mine’s effect zone.

A donation of P450, 000 was made to the Moreomaoto Clinic, which was completed in 2019. The project cost a total of P1.5 million.

Tickets are still available until August 12, which is the registration deadline.
