This week it continued making Batswana proud after stunning thousands that thronged the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) 10th year anniversary. The event was hosted in Marikana, Rustenburg, last Wednesday, before the main one at the FNB stadium on Saturday.

EFF president, Julius Malema said when he, EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu and the late Sindiso Magaqa visited Marikana 11 years ago, where then 34 striking miners were killed in 2012, some of the miners who survived the shooting asked them to form an alternative political party to the ruling African National Congress (ANC), and they heeded the call.

It was local traditional group, Culture Spears that rocked the stage. Speaking to the groups’ leader after their electrifying performance, Kabelo Mogwe, told Showtime that they were booked by the EFF leadership back in April after they were spotted at an event in Klerksdorp. “The amount of support we received is honestly overwhelming. Performing in front of such a big crowd, thousands of people, is always nerve wrecking. But from the moment we stepped on to the stage, the crowd went wild,” Mogwe said.

On their set, Hardrock said they performed eight songs in a 45-minute tight set. He said they performed songs mostly from their 2006 and 2008 hit albums, Kulenyane and Khudu. Following the performance, the crowd went into a frenzy, singing along to every lyric. “Since the performance, we have been receiving a lot of bookings and interest.

In fact after the Wednesday performance, the leadership liked us so much that we got a call back for the Saturday main event. Unfortunately we had already been booked for the Kaizer Chiefs, Rollers game here back home and so we could not accept it,” Mogwe explained. Culture Spears, which famously broke apart back in 2006, has been dominating the traditional music scene.

The multi-award winning group, according to Mogwe will sometime in the near future record an album as a full group as they have overtime, managed to overcome their differences. For fans, the time cannot come soon enough. “We will definitely do it. It is just that for now we are all focusing on our individual careers and so we have little time. We have, however, been collaborating on some projects but for an entire album as the original Culture Spears, we will do so soon,” said Mogwe.
