Mmegi: Would you please provide a brief of Kalafhi Medical, its background and its focus?

Matlhogonolo: Kalafhi Medical Centre is a growing enterprise of integrated medical centres that offer a variety of high-quality medical services to the community. Since its inception five years ago, Kalafhi has grown to four general practice clinics, three pharmacies, two physiotherapy clinics, and one smart day hospital which is scheduled to open at the end of this year.

Kalafhi has contributed to healthcare through innovative, convenient clinics, pharmacies, telehealth solutions, and home care solutions. Indeed, every night, our pharmacy stands as a beacon of commitment, remaining open later than any other across the country.

Our mission is to transform Botswana's healthcare system to bring it to par with some of the world’s best healthcare systems with a vision of becoming a medical tourism destination/health hub.

Mmegi: What prompted you to participate in Africa's Business Heroes (ABH) 2023 edition?

Matlhogonolo: I was looking for growth as an entrepreneur and seeking alternative forms of funding outside of what is available in Botswana. Participating in the ABH 2023 edition seemed like a great opportunity for Kalafhi to showcase its innovative approach to healthcare and gain recognition on a larger platform.

I also saw this as an opportunity to allow the organisation to connect with other entrepreneurs, potential investors, and industry experts, fostering collaboration and growth.

Mmegi: What attributes do you reckon have led to your shortlisting in the Top 50?

Matlhogonolo: The attributes that I believe may have led to Kalafhi’s shortlisting in the Top 50 could include factors such as our having a strong business model, innovative solutions, demonstrated impact in the healthcare sector, potential for scalability, a solid track record, and the ability to address the unique challenges and needs of the African market.

Mmegi: What does it mean for you to be a Top 50 finalist in this competition that is open to thousands of entrepreneurs from across Africa?

Matlhogonolo: Being a Top 50 finalist in a competition open to thousands of entrepreneurs from across Africa is a significant achievement. It signifies that Kalafhi Medical's vision, efforts, and impact have been recognised by a panel of experts.

It also provides validation for our business model and can help us attract further attention from investors, potential partners, and the media. Additionally, being part of the Top 50 offers networking opportunities, exposure, and the chance to learn from other successful entrepreneurs in the region and beyond.

Mmegi: What is Kalafhi Medical Centre's outlook?

Matlhogonolo: At Kalafhi, we are guided by the principle 'Patients First, Innovation Always, Global Impact Next'. Our outlook is to continue expanding our reach and impact in the healthcare industry within Botswana and the region.

We aim to expand our services, leverage technological advancements, and adapt to the evolving needs of our communities.

Kalafhi is looking to focus on areas such as research and development as well as partnerships with other healthcare organisations to build a sustainable healthcare workforce and information exchange platform.
