Kgathane, who is the initiative’s project manager, explained that the first instalment of Whispers of Botswana will be held at the Game City Mall on July 29 from 10am-5pm.

He stated that the initiative was started to give creatives, small business owners, and service providers a space to showcase their work, and give them a platform to be celebrated.

Kgathane said Turnstar played a huge role in making this happen by offering the space. Furthermore, he stated that they chose Game City being the perfect place because of its massive foot traffic.

“The name Whispers of Botswana came to me because these small entrepreneurs go unheard even though they have a lot to offer. So, this is the perfect place to see these unheard titans of the industry,” Kgathane said.

“These markets are important because they put small entrepreneurs on a platform they wouldn't otherwise be given, to have their products and services being seen buy such masses, masses who can also readily support them financially, also, helping them with their economic development ,” he added. Kgathane also said they plan to make it a monthly event, happening on the last Saturday of every month. In order to be part of the event, participants have to buy stalls at P300 per stall.

Kgathane said 30% of that amount would be donated to the Botswana Society for Protection and Care of Animals (BSPCA). “The charity aspect of it merges well with the rest of the concept.

We want to give charitable organisations a platform to teach Batswana about what they do, who they represent, and how the community can help their cause,” he added. He said they are already in advanced plans for the next event, which will be held on August 26 and intend to donate part of the event’s proceeds to Autism Botswana.
