This is despite reports that there was chaos outside the Lady Khama Polling Station when the police clashed with members of the public during the election. Oketsang told The Monitor that the weekend polls went off without a hitch and no criminal activity was reported.

He said that since documenting rape or murder incidents practically every weekend, Serowe has been in the spotlight for a long period for the wrong reasons. Oketsang stated that despite the large number of people who came to the constituency for the Serowe West parliamentary by-election, they did not record any serious offences last weekend.

The Independent Electoral Commission held the Serowe West by-election on Saturday after the National Assembly made an announcement declaring the area vacant following the disqualification of Tshekedi Khama as the incumbent Member of Parliament. Botswana Patriotic Front managed to retain the parliamentary seat after its candidate Onalepelo Kedikilwe won with 2,933 votes.
