Magama's Motion Came At The Wrong Time

The Member of Parliament, Akanyang Magama's motion was of course plausible and unfortunately for MP, he brought the motion at the wrong time when the BDP, a party with great cultural tradition and morality is in the process of a transition. So as such no one with due human common sense will expect the BDP members to support such a motion at this critical moment. The motion in itself was ill-timed to coincide with the incoming of the new President. It could have created animosity within the BDP, should they support it. I am not in opposition to the motion but the time at which it was tabled and I want to salute also the BDP men and women to have not supported this motion for now.

You have proved to us that you are a well-organised and oiled machine to resist that temptation. Some jealous persons will think that you were protecting your parliamentary and Ministerial positions. You are really Honourable, you must in all ways possible give your incoming President an auspicious occasion, and I greatly thank you for that. We are aware that there are those full of both audacity and loquacity who have suggested that the incoming President is going to fail and as such will the BDP government.

This is fallacy, the BDP has capable men and women and it is not a one-man show. Some prophesy the demilitarisation of Parliament, but who would resist the capability and ability of the calibre of Ministers such as Mompati Merafhe, Ramadeluka Seretse and Kitso Mokaila. I am not saying that we flood Parliament with army men, but if there are a few available who possess the same technique and skills like the above three gentlemen, I approve to have them in Parliament.

My final plea is to use palatable words when debating motions in Parliament. People should not use words like, 'shut up' or any arrogant, abusive and belittling words. You are our role models. To the incoming President, I say avoid those bad-mouthing others and accept the opposition like your predecessors. They are of great importance to this country. Be independent to choose your VP based on productivity and not bootlicking. I personally left employment in 1987, but I have a feeling that the Civil Service is underpaid, so I humbly plead with you to apply your independent mind as regards this matter and disregard those who say you will buy problems with money.

Batswana are a beautiful nation full of love and Peace. He who abuses and starves them will be punished by The Almighty God.
