According to No2 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said that the couple was caught red-handed with a substance suspected to be cat with a street market value of P25,000 and over P6,000 in cash.

He said that the couple was caught in different circumstances but on the same day during a recent Narcotic Flora and Fauna Investigating (NFFI) unit operation. He elaborated that the couple was arrested at their homes in Botalaote and Mere wards respectively.

Oketsang said that following a police tip-off they managed to arrest a 31-year-old man of Botalaote who was caught with 11 sachets of a green-like substance suspected to be dagga. He stated that the drug sachets were found on the suspected drug dealer's jacket. Upon finding the drugs, the police then raided the suspect’s house where they found small packages filled with a white substance suspected to be cat and close to P3,200 cash under his mattress, he elaborated. No2 district top cop also said that the raid was extended to the 31-year-old man’s girlfriend’s place where they found 185 grams of a substance suspected to be cat.

He said that they also found P3,300 cash under the woman’s mattress. He believed that the sum of money retrieved from the suspected drug-dealing couple is proceeds from the illicit drug business. He stated that there were sachets everywhere during the two raids which was a clear indication that it is a drug-consuming place. Oketsang indicated that the wrongdoers are still in police custody and charged with possession of dagga and a white substance suspected to be cat. He said that they are still awaiting results from the forensic lab and upon completion of their investigation the suspect will be taken to court.

With the alarming drug cases in their policing area, Oketsang appealed to parents to monitor their children’s behaviour. He said that parents should observe small packages, straws, or pipes and razors in their surroundings as such items are associated with different drugs. Oketsang indicated that if such things are everywhere, there is a possibility that they have a drug addict who needs help through rehabilitation.
