Nkange man kills father, assaults mother

The incident reportedly happened after the man had an altercation with his parents and started hurling objects at his 68-year-old mother. Tutume Police Station Commander, Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang confirmed that they are investigating a murder incident that occurred on Tuesday night at Maboe ward. He further confirmed that they arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with murdering his 73-year-old father. Prior to his arrest, Kgosiemang said the suspect who is in police custody, attacked and harassed his mother upon her arrival from personal errands. He said the suspect was reported to have thrown objects at his mother.
The mother, who ended up reporting the incident to the police, said after being hit with objects she sought refuge from her 73-year-old partner. Kgosiemang stated that the suspect followed his mother and ended up attacking both parents. “Whist the suspect continued attacking his parents, his mother escaped from the room and fled to their neighbour’s compound,” Kgosiemang further revealed. He also disclosed that when the suspect’s mother returned home with help, her partner and son were nowhere to be found. It was after some moments that they heard someone screaming from the nearby bushes, he elaborated.
Kgosiemang also said when the mother and neighbours approached the area, they found the 73-year-old man with a head injury suspected to have been caused by a knobkerrie or a metal object. Kgosiemang indicated that the man sustained a swollen wound on the head but was taken to Tutume Primary Hospital where he was later declared dead. He said that investigations into the matter are still ongoing and they are yet to establish what exactly transpired before the incident.
