Bus accident claims a life, 41 injured

The fatal accident comes a week after another horrific accident which claimed the lives of 23 people along the A3 highway.

Tatitown police station commander superintendent Boipuso Baatweng confirmed the accident to Mmegi Online and said that the incident happened yesterday at 19:50pm.

According to the police ,the accident involved an 80-seater Scania bus which was travelling from Kasane to Francistown. The bus was carrying 42 occupants including the driver.

"The bus was carrying BURS employees who were returning from a retreat from Kasane.The employees are based at Francistown, Ramokgwebana and Matsiloje border respectively, " he added.

Baatweng said that the incident happened after Mathangwane village, 20km away from Francistown.

He said that a 43-year-old man of Mmadinare village was certified dead upon arrival at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital. At least 41 sustained injuries and 21 BURS employees including the driver were treated and discharged from different health facilities, he added.

Furthermore, he shared that 19 are still hospitalised and three sustained serious injuries including internal bleeding , broken legs and hands. Baatweng said that preliminary investigation indicates that the bus overturned on its own. However, further investigations in the matter are continuing. He urged motorists using A3 highway and any other road to drive vigilantly.
