Family spokesperson, Ontukile Oabona who was at pains when telling The Monitor his niece’s story, said they still do not understand what happened to the deceased.

“We still want answers to what could have happened to our child. On Wednesday last week, Obakeng went to her work as usual. Usually, she leaves home around past seven in the morning since their shop opens at 8am at Boitekanelo Mall,” Oabona said. “But surprisingly, our child never came back home after she knocked off. Her grandmother tried calling her that day but her phones were off.

The following morning, she called me that Obakeng never came home and I told her that we should go and open a missing person’s case at the police.” He said they were dismayed when her colleagues came with their employer that morning to know the whereabouts of Pelotshweu, saying that she has the shop keys and they wanted to open the shop.

Oabona said they then went to file a missing person’s case together with her employer. Surprisingly, on that fateful day, the residents were alerted by a passerby who saw a body by the roadside and notified the police. Obakeng’s uncle said the police then informed them to come and check if the deceased is not their daughter and they were shocked to find that it was her.

He continued: “We suspect foul play because it is clear that our daughter might have been murdered because we have been notified that she had a bruise on her face, especially below the eye and nose. We believe that our daughter was killed by someone who knows her or the one who knew that she had shop keys and money on her.”

He said the police are cooperating well with the family and they believe that the perpetrator will be brought to book. For their part, Serowe police’s Superintendent Poloko Oteng confirmed that they are investigating the incident. “We have not arrested anyone in connection with the matter. As police, we are appealing to the public to help us with information on who could have done this. Postmortem will be done this week,” Oteng said.
