Confirming the incident, No 2 District officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the incident took place on Saturday at around 11:01pm. On their way to a local bar, the duo was attacked by an unknown man and they ran for their lives, he said.

Unfortunately, Oketsang indicated that the victim tried to escape but the unknown suspect managed to catch to her. He then dragged her to nearby bushes where he sexually forced himself on her.

He stated that the victim’s friend was able to escape and called for help. Oketsang indicated that when the matter was reported to the police, they immediately launched a search. He said they will not rest until the culprit is arrested.

As a result of the incident, the police have appealed to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the nearest police station. The police chief was concerned about the rape incidents in his policing area, revealing that they registered two cases in a period of less than 24 hours. According to Oketsang, their policing area has registered a total of 61 rape-related cases from January to March.

He said they previously recorded 96 and 58 cases in the same quarter in 2022 and 2021 respectively.
