Strong field awaits Tebogo in Paris

Tebogo’s coach, Kebonyemodisa ‘Dose’ Mosimanyane told Mmegi Online that the athlete is ready for the competition. “He is fine and ready to take on the field. He is not over confident, but also not too scared,” he said. When asked about the approach to the race, Mosimanyane said the Diamond League is about collecting points to reach the finals. He said the idea is to get in a position to collect points they can possibly collect in a day. He also said the plan is for Tebogo to focus on his own lane, execute what they do at training and see what will come out. “After tonight, we will continue with the Diamond League and use it to prepare for the Budapest World Athletics Championships. We will just space them out to allow him as much training as possible,” Mosimanyane said.

Tebogo faces stiff competition in the men’s 100m race against Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs and double 200m World champion, Noah Lyles. He will also be going against Commonwealth champion, Kenyan, Ferdinand Omanyala for the third time this season. The two African fast men met for the first time during the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix Continental Tour Gold, with Omanyala winning the challenge in 9.78 seconds while Tebogo finished second stopping the clock at 9.91 seconds. The two took their battle to Morocco at the Rabat Diamond League, where Omanyala came third in 10.5 seconds and Tebogo was in position four finishing in 10.09 seconds.

The Wanda Diamond League Paris is the fourth leg of athletics' premier one-day meeting series, which comprises 14 of the most prestigious events in global track and field. Athletes compete for points at the 13 series meetings in a bid to qualify for the two days Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene in September.
