The ice cream company was established by Hip Hop artist, 6eorge Staggz (real name, George Magapa) and his brother and renowned mixologits and confectioner, Gibson Magapa in May 2023. SOGO is an acronym for “So Good” and it is pronounced as ‘Soh-Goh’. Speaking to Arts & Culture this week, SOGO’s creative director, 6eorge Staggz said the company is the only hand-crafted luxury alcoholic and non-alcoholic ice cream makers in the country and it is amongst the top five in Southern Africa. 6eorge Staggz explained that SOGO’s unique selection of ingredients sets the ice cream apart from its competitors. “We have aspirations to be the leading luxury ice cream in the continent through our unique range of flavours especially using indigenous fruits and local treats, which is the identity we will use to dominate globally," he said.

He explained that further that: “At SOGO we have over 300 flavours to pick from to also produce other dairy products such as milkshakes, soft serve ice cream, popsicles plus more including offering custom branded ice creams for private clients to other brands as we highly believe in collaboration. We are interested in partnering with various brands to help expand or appreciate their existing clientele.” He also said SOGO has found some success in the first weeks of sale. According to 6eorge Staggz, in its first three weeks of existence, they have sold over 220 tubs. The rapper also said SOGO is headed into a huge groundbreaking partnership with a fridge manufacturer and will also engage in a first-ever tour dubbed, “Ladies Love Ice Cream” which starts off in August. The 'Ladies Love Ice Cream' will visit Cape Town, Pretoria, Maseru, Rustenburg, Johannesburg, Gaborone, Palapye and Francistown. “The vision has always been to be available in every kasi around the world, telling different stories through our flavours. We are really interested in partnering with celebrities to private companies to create global scale desserts. We also aim at opening multiple stores around the world but for now we are expanding into different stores and tuck shops,” said 6eorge Staggz.
